About Shtetl 2.0™ Membership

As a grass-roots community of neighbors helping neighbors, members will the lifeblood of Shtetl 2.0™.

Your membership fees will support our programming and allow neighbors at all income levels to participate. Your experience, ideas, skills and energy are essential! You can serve on a committee, assist in the planning of an event, or present a program. You can also offer mutual assistance to other members - provide a check-in call or friendly visit, or, eventually, give a fellow member a ride to the doctor, provide short-term help with pets or household tasks.

For the first year, July 2024 - June 2025, Shtetl 2.0™ invites you to join this community as a Founder, with a donation of your choice! (We have already received founding gifts and pledges from $36 to $6,000!).

See more information about joining by donation to the Founders' Fund here.

Looking ahead to 2025-26, we expect to create a formal membership system, similar to those in nearby Villages.

  • The Board will also establish a confidential system of reduced fees, so no one will be refused membership based on lack of ability pay.

  • We anticipate that membership for participation in most social, educational, and cultural programs will have no geographic boundaries (especially when presented on Zoom).

  • Once we reach sufficient membership to facilitate mutual/volunteer support services (such as driving, errands, short-term pet care, tech help, etc.), there will necessarily be geographic limitations - and likely a tiered membership structure commensurate with different member benefits.

  • Members of Shtetl 2.0™ can also be members of other Villages, whether locally or as "snow birds" in warmer climes.

See more information about joining by donation to the Founders' Fund here.

Inclusive Membership

Shtetl 2.0™ seeks to overcome social silos based on age, gender, race, sexual orientation, physical ability, education, class, and marital status.

We recognize that many current potential members have physical limitations that make social gatherings challenging, and that many of us may experience similar challenges in the future.

To date, we have been as inclusive as possible within the limits of available locations, technology, volunteers and funding - and anticipate that our ability to respond to these needs will evolve.

We will endeavor to offer multi-access (hybrid) programming as is feasible, so as to be accessible to those who cannot participate in person.
