The Jewish festival (chag) of Shavuot begins at sundown (erev), and commemorates the biblical giving of the Torah on Mt Sinai. Customs include all-night study sessions, with morning services at dawn, and festive meals of milk products - especially cheese blintzes. Work is not done on Shavuot.
